Global Travel Collection Survey Shows Enthusiasm for Return of Business Travel

June 3, 2021

While we have been reading reports that many workers are reluctant to return to an office environment, many have a different perspective when it comes to business travel. Data suggests that people are ready to trade in video conference calls for face-to-face meetings and to conduct business and attend events in person again soon.

New York, NY, June 3, 2021 – Global Travel Collection (GTC), the world’s largest collection of international luxury travel agencies, including Protravel International and Tzell Travel Group, surveyed its corporate clients in the U.S. and found that most expect to be traveling for business by October 2021. The nationwide survey also found the following:

  • There is enthusiasm for the return of business travel. 4 out of 5 (83 percent) are enthusiastic about resuming business travel. 58 percent indicated their company is “somewhat enthusiastic” while 25 percent said their company is “very enthusiastic”.

  • Some are already traveling for business. According to the survey, 29 percent have already been traveling for company business in some form.

  • Business travel patterns may return to normal. 31 percent of companies noted that when business travel resumes, domestic and international travel patterns will be the same as they were pre-Covid.

  • A majority (51 percent) are comfortable with the idea of traveling for business. 17 percent stated that they are “somewhat comfortable” while 34 percent said they are “very comfortable”.

“While we have been reading reports that many workers are reluctant to return to an office environment, many have a different perspective when it comes to business travel,” said Angie Licea, President, Global Travel Collection. “Data suggests that people are ready to trade in video conference calls for face-to-face meetings and to conduct business and attend events in person again soon.”

Regarding the future of remote work, according to the survey, 36 percent of companies plan to work remote for the foreseeable future, with 31 percent of companies currently working in the office but with limited occupancy, and 9 percent of companies planning to return to the office before July 1.

When asked about vaccine requirements, 20 percent of U.S. companies noted that vaccination will not be required before employees can travel on company business. 23 percent will require vaccination while 57 percent are undecided on this issue.

While a large majority of the Global Travel Collection business qualifies as VIP corporate and entertainment travel, its community of travel industry agents and agencies also service luxury leisure travel clients.

“Travel advisors have been increasingly critical to organizations around the world during this time and even during pre-pandemic times as in 2019, these travel advisors, known for their high-touch service and personalized, consultative relationships, booked over 650,000 trips,” continued Licea. “Our Global Travel Collection travel experts have been helping clients navigate increasingly complicated protocols and restrictions policies put in place due to the pandemic. When business travel resumes, these trusted counsellors will be more important than ever.”

The nationwide survey was conducted online from February to March and was successfully completed by more than 100 Global Travel Collection travel advisors who provide a best-in-class travel solution for corporate clients at small to mid-size corporate and entertainment organizations.
